Emergency guide

The first
60 minutes

Calm, simple steps for the first hour after water damage or finding mold. Safety always comes first.

  1. Stop the water

Shut off the main water valve. For a single fixture, close its supply valve. In a condo, ask building staff for the unit shut-off.

  2. Make electricity safe

If water is near outlets or appliances, turn off those breakers only if you can reach the panel from a dry spot. Otherwise, leave it and call.

  3. Keep people and pets clear

Avoid sagging ceilings, sewage and floodwater. Do not use a household vacuum on water.

  4. Document everything

Wide photos of each room, then close-ups of the source and damaged items. Note the time you discovered it.

  5. Start air moving, if safe

Open interior doors, run the AC if it is unaffected, and lift furniture onto blocks or foil. Do not turn on heat.

  6. Call for extraction and drying

In Florida humidity, mold can start within 24 to 48 hours. The sooner drying starts, the less you lose.

If you found mold

Avoid disturbing it — scraping or dry brushing can spread spores. Keep the area closed off, note any musty smells or past leaks nearby, and photograph it. A professional assessment is recommended. If you have health concerns, consult a medical professional.

If it is sewage or floodwater

Treat it as contaminated. Keep everyone out, do not try to clean it yourself, and call us.
